Football Player Michael Vick Makes Me Sick

As many of you already know, Atlanta Falcons’ quarterback Michael Vick was allegedly involved in a dog fighting ring that took place at a Virginia house that he owned.  Although he is currently denying any involvement in the dog fighting, there are numerous sources who say otherwise.  It is hard to comprehend why anyone in their right mind would find pleasure in an activity that is so abusive to helpless animals.

This is not the first time that a high profile athlete has been linked to organized dog fighting.  Part of the problem is that the practice is glorified by rap stars, and in turn is celebrated by athletes.  How about this quote regarding Vick’s dogfighting from another NFL star, Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis? “I don’t know if he was fighting dogs or not, but it’s his property, it’s his dog……If that’s what he wants to do, do it.  I think people should mind their business.”  How can anyone mind their business when someone is repeatedly abusing helpless animals for their own sick personal enjoyment?

I hope that Michael Vick is prosecuted for his disgusting actions, and suspended by the NFL.  Hopefully, dog fighting awareness will rise out of this horrible story.  If everyone bands together and supports such charities as the American Humane Association and their local animal shelters, we can make a difference in the way these animals are being treated.  If you would like to support these charities, simply click the link below and when you do your normal online shopping, the charity of your choice will receive a generous commission, all at no additional cost to you.

Great work. I will tell all my friends about your wonderful cause.

I totally agree with your comments and hope the NFL suspends this player. This is disgusting and it's appalling to think that an individual in the spotlight, who is looked up to as an inspiration or role model by children, would do this to animals. Dogs and cats have been domesticated for years and are loving & loyal family members - to treat them otherwise is ignorant. I hope the animals are removed and adopted into good homes. I hope this person suffers whatever penalties / fines are available to the full extent of the law, I hope the NFL suspends him and extracts a fine from him payable to animal welfare organizations.
